NSC, NSSF list gains of Nestle Milo Schools Basketball tourney

basketball -.draftdayTHE National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Nigeria School Sports Federation (NSSF) have thanked Nestle Milo, sponsors of the annual secondary school basketball championship, for its role in the development of the game in the country.

For 17 years, the Nestle Milo Basketball Championship has been the nation’s flagship grassroots competition, which gives the Nigerian youth the opportunity to showcase their skills. This year’s edition ended at the weekend with schools from Kaduna and Bayelsa states winning the titles in the boys and girls categories respectively.

Speaking at the traditional ‘jump ball’ at the National Stadium, Lagos, NSC’s Director of Grassroots Sports, Dr. Ademola Are, described Nestle Milo as the leader in the country’s quest for excellence in basketball.

“With such competitions like the Nestle Milo Secondary Schools Basketball, our national teams and clubs have been getting constant supply and resource for the tired players. I am very happy with the organisation of the championship- from the state preliminaries to the Conference playoffs and the national final,’’ he said.

Also speaking at the event, NSSF President, Mallam Ibrahim Mohammed, , commended Nestle Milo for hosting another hitch free championship, saying, “if other corporate organisations can do what Nestle Milo is doing in basketball for other sports, the sky will be the nation’s limit.
