Vows renewed commitment to curbing insecurity in Oyo
A middle-aged woman (name withheld) has been rescued from an apparent suicide attempt by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command.
The Guardian learnt that the survivor, an indigene of Iragbiji, Boripe Local Council, jumped into the river on Tuesday.
Spokesperson for the command, Kehinde Adeleke, explained: “The Search and Rescue Team received a distress call from a member of the public. In less than 10 minutes, the officers were at the scene to rescue the victim and resuscitate her before taking her to a hospital for medical attention.”
She added: “After becoming conscious, following First Aid treatment initially provided by the NSCDC team, the woman explained that she came all the way from Iragbiji to Osogbo to jump into the Gbodofon river because she felt fire burning in her body. And the only way to quench the fire was to jump into the river.”
NSCDC Commandant in the state, Sunday Agboola, commended the Search and Rescue Team, led by Ishola Oluyinka, for being responsive and for deploying their training in disaster management to save the life of a fellow citizen.
Agboola enjoined people to take care of their mental health, adding that his men would pay close attention to all rivers in the state to avoid future occurrence.
MEANWHILE, the Oyo State Command, has expressed its resolve to rid the state of crimes in 2024.
The command said its commitment to the security of residents remains unshakable.
It also acknowledged the role played by other security agencies, government bodies, and the public toward protecting the life and property of residents.
Spokesperson, Samuel Opebiyi, who disclosed this in a statement, quoted the state Commandant, Michael Adaralewa, as saying: “We are committed to working with the people of Oyo State to create a safe and secure environment for everyone.
We urge the public to cooperate with us and report any suspicious activities or crimes to the NSCDC or other security agencies.”
He added: “As we embark on a new chapter, the NSCDC Oyo State Command remains unwavering in its resolve. We have implemented a multi-pronged approach to bolster security across the state, including but not limited to enhanced patrols, intelligence gathering, critical infrastructure protection, safeguarding schools, and others.”
