The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Onah stated this in Nsukka during an interview, adding that the party had campaigned vigorously in the 20 wards of the council and was hopeful of a landslide victory.
“PDP in Nsukka campaigned in all the 20 wards in Nsukka, telling people to vote our chairmanship and councillorship candidates so that the area will continue to witness peace and massive development.
“During the campaign, residents promised to vote for the party massively, because the PDP has contributed immensely in developing Enugu State,” he said.
The PDP chieftain said that the party had quality chairmanship and councillorship candidates for the Wednesday polls who emerged from the party’s primary.
He described the party’s chairmanship candidate, Walter Ozioko, who is the current Vice-Chairman of Nsukka Council, as a man of integrity, who has an enviable pedigree in all positions he had held.
“As a lawyer, he ensures good governance, equity, fairness, justice and due process in everything he does. It’s as a result of his performance as Vice Chairman in the council that he was elected unopposed in the primaries as chairmanship candidate of the PDP in Nsukka Council.
“All our councillorship candidates also have good records and quality recommendations from party stakeholders in their wards,” he said.
Onah attributed the peace and development in Enugu State to the humility, peaceful disposition and performance of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
“Since Ugwuanyi assumed office as governor in 2015, the three Senatorial Districts of the state have witnessed peace, development and unprecedented empowerment of the people.
“The governor as the leader of the party, and as a democrat, he has campaigned in the 17 councils of the state, urging residents to vote for PDP on Wednesday,” he said.
Onah urged the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) to conduct credible, free and fair elections by ensuring that the poll reflects the wishes and aspirations of the Enugu people.
“I also advise political parties, their candidates and supporters to accept the results of the election in good faith and in the spirit of sportsmanship since there must be winners and losers in every election,” he said.
