OAR&D to embark on leadership tour, drive transformative change

…To donate 10, 000 books to school pupils

To improve the quality and efficacy of education, inspire young people to take on leadership and develop their competences, the Oludare Akinlaja Research and Development Company (OAR&D) is set to embark on a leadership tour in public institutions in Nigeria.

The company which have produced a book, titled ‘Leadership Revolution’ will be giving out 10, 000 copies of the book to equip young people for the role of leadership for the future.

Development consultant and founder OAR&D, Oludare Akinlaja said the book is based on the desire of people to occupy a political position and young people wanting to get things because of their youthfulness. “Leadership is about responsibility and building skill, competence and knowing how to harness talents, gifts and how to influence ones’ environment.”

He said he wrote the book for young people to pass the message that leadership does not come because they are youths but on building competence and taking action, hence his intention to get it into the hands of public school children with focus on the teenagers.

“We are taking the book to schools and trying to partner with the schools to develop a leadership curriculum around governance and civic education. We have designed it in a way that we can inspire this generation to look out for what leadership truly means and how to be responsible for themselves and environment.

“Although 10,000 books for public schools are a few compared to the massive cluster we have of young people in the workforce, we hope that gradually, we will continue to touch lives and do our bit to restore leadership hope in our youths.”

Akinlaja noted that in an economy where knowledge thrives and looking at our educational system and quality of learning, the country is still behind, from engaging with transformation tools to prepare the society for the world of work, we are trying to .ensure that learning is practical by also including vocational and technical skills.

“I say to people that we are driving the transformation of communities through learning. If human capital is the tool for building productive societies we need to begin to focus on how we can build a skillful and vibrant human capital base and how people are educated is vital for that drive. At OAR&D we are focused on developing programmes and projects that drive quality education and lifelong learning.”

He added that the company will be engaging stakeholders on policy and spending decisions. “Our work is beyond making learning profitable for individuals we also help companies, and we need to produce more work opportunities but we also need to ensure people are skillful enough for the available work.

OAR&D is a learning research and development company that facilitates transformation through learning.
