Obanikoro seeks re-election, pledges development to constituency

Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro
The All Progressive Congress (APC) House of Representatives member, Babajide Obanikoro has urged his constituents to re-elect him in the coming election based on his experience and performance.

Obanikoro, who is representing Eti-Osa Federal Constituency, stated this at the flag off of his campaign on Tuesday, in Lagos.

He urged the people to re-elect him for continuity and his antecedents.

Obanikoro said having represented them in the last three years and six months, he has presented three bills on the floor of the house and moved about eight motions that have to do with Eti-Osa and Nigeria as a people.

He said: “Some of the projects that I have facilitated in Eti-Osa are unprecedented: I have facilitated about eight roads; four schools, and two clinics; we have done over 300 solar street lights across Eti-Osa.

“I have got the opportunity to represent them in the last three years and six months today, and that which I have done speaks for itself. Obanikoro urged the Constituents to shun violence in the coming general elections.

“Campaign and elections will come and go; as a people we will remain, our infrastructure will remain; so, we have to be peaceful. Let us follow issue-based campaigns; look at the candidates and what we all bring to bear: our offering, preaching and campaigning.

“I assure you that we have brought the best candidates from the presidency all the way to the assembly members, especially in Eti-Osa; we are all bringing experience to bear and continuity.”

He said that his performance in Eti-Osa constituency and that of the Lagos state Government should guarantee his re-election and that of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The candidate said that the performance should also guarantee the election of the APC presidential candidate, Sen. Bola Tinubu.

Also speaking, former senator and Minister of State for Defence, Mr Musiliu Obanikoro, the candidate’s father, described his son as a performer.

“By returning him to the House of Representatives, you will have more benefits; by returning him, you have increased your stature and when your stature is elevated, you have more power. His performance in the next four years will be extraordinary.

“I am not here because Jide is my son, but I am here supporting him because he is a performer, he has performed.

“I am not given to massaging anyone’s ego, I am only saying this because he has done well. He has moved motions and sponsored bills. By returning him to the House of Representatives, we are ensuring we get value for our votes because he will perform even better.

“It is not wise for us to elect someone who is new and who doesn’t know the rudiments of the legislature. Eti Osa needs the experience of Jide and we are confident that he will perform well,” he assured.

He described Tinubu as the best candidate for the presidency, saying he knows where the shoe pitches Nigerian, “and he will fix it. He will hit the ground running.”

Among his peers as governors in 1999, Obanikoro recalled, he remained the only man standing, still relevant in the political firmament of Nigeria owing to his capacity and capability as a true leader of leaders.

“This is an election where we must work hard to succeed. It’s about Nigeria’s progress, he quipped.”
The leadership of APC in Eti-Osa Constituency later received some members of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who decamped into the ruling party with a promise not to let them down.

Present at the rally were the state Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat; elder statesman and top member of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council, Chief Tajudeen Olusi, among others.
