Obasa holds eight days prayer for late father

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday, led other prominent Nigerians and politicians to the special Fidau prayer for the late father of the Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, in Agege.

The Speaker’s father, Suleiman Atanda Obasa, died on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at the age of 83.Other prominent Nigerians present at the prayer include Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun; Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori; Chief Imam of Lagos State, Sheikh Sulaimon Abou-Nolla; Iyaloja General of Nigeria, Iyabo Tinubu-Ojo, among others.

Sanwo-Olu, while praying for the Speaker and the Obasa family, said: “May the soul of Baba continue to rest in peace. We thank the Almighty Allah for Baba’s well-spent life. The responsibility is now on you to continue with his good works as a community leader and one that brings together the entire family.”

Abiodun, who described the late Obasa as a man who lived his life-giving, said: “Three or four years after this event, nobody will know what happened here.”
“What people will remember is the legacy that Baba left behind. The legacy of good children that he left behind. One of such legacies is our brother, Dr MudashiruObasa.”Oborevwori said the news of the demise of Obasa’s father was a rude shock. He said: “When I received the news of the demise of my friend’s father, it was a rude shock. We have a perfect relationship beyond party affiliations.”

Speaker Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, said: “Obasa, to us, is our leader. I appreciate you for setting a standard for the conference of speakers. On behalf of all the speakers in the country, we commiserate with you. God will be with you and your family, support and comfort you, as well as show you directions. We at the conference of Speakers will always be there and make sure that your legacies cannot be forgotten.

Obasa thanked everyone who came to the prayer. He said the gathering and support he had witnessed since the demise of his father is proof that being good pays.”

The late Obasa’s grandchild, Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, said all the grandchildren had planned to embark on water projects across the state as charity for their late grandfather.

“We are going to build boreholes in all the local councils in the state on behalf of our beloved grandfather,” he said.
