•Pledges to prioritise health of Deltans
Fifty-one days after taking office, Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has unveiled a list of his cabinet members, made up of 26 commissioners.
Oborevwori, in a letter to the Speaker and members of the state Assembly, yesterday, in Asaba, said the list has been sent to the House for consideration and confirmation to enable him effect their appointments, in line with powers conferred on him by Section 192 (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, (1999 as amended).
The commissioners designate are Odinigwe Odigie Daniel; Joan Onyemaechi Ada-Anioma; Jerry Ehiwario; Charles Aniagwu; Michael Ifeanyi Anoka; Pat Ajudua; Funyei Manager and Angele Godknows.
Others are Kingsley Ashibuogwu; Perez Omoun; Uduaghan Orode; Isaac Tosan Wilkie; Oligida Samuel; Tonukari Johnbull; Jamani Tommy Ejiro; Rose Ezewu; Onoriode Agofure; Oyibode Vincent; Emamusi Obiodeh; Tilije Fidelis; Etagherure Ejiro Terry; Agbateyimiro Isaac Weyinmi; Sonny Akpororkimo Ekedayen; Darlington Ijeh; Joseph Onojaeme and Reuben Rume Izeze.
Some former commissioners in Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration also made the list, including Aniagwu and Tilije, who were in charge of Information and Finance ministries, respectively.
Also appointed into the cabinet are Orode, daughter of former governor of the state, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, and Funyei, son of former Senator representing Delta South, James Manager.
MEANWHILE, the governor said his administration would pay priority attention to the health and well-being of Deltans, in line with his M.O.R.E agenda. Oborevwori noted that his administration is willing to partner well-meaning bodies for growth and development of the state.
Speaking when the National Executive Council of Nigerian Optometric Association (NOA), led by its National President, Dr. Obinna Awiaka, paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Asaba, yesterday, the governor assured the optometric body of the state government’s support for its conference holding in Asaba.
The governor said: “As a state, we are very happy receiving visitors, because our state is peaceful, especially Asaba, the capital city. A lot of conferences have been held here.
“We are ready, at all times, to partner any sector that wants to collaborate with us. I believe the conference you are holding in Delta will bring a lot of awareness to our people in the area of proper eye care.
“It will encourage a lot of people to come and check their eyes. In my M.O.R.E. Agenda, we are not going to toy with the issue of health. Also, in my cabinet, we would have a medical doctor, who will be in charge of the health sector.
“I know we have some optometrists working with Asaba Specialist Hospital, but now that you have requested for more of them, we will check if there are vacancies and employ more.”
Awiaka commended Oborevwori for the development in the state, and for approving Call Duty Allowance for their members, as well as for supporting the conference.
