Oborevwori, Otti congratulate Nigerians on democracy day

Sheriff Oborevwori

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and his Abia State counterpart, Alex Otti, yesterday, congratulated residents of their states and other Nigerians on this year’s Democracy Day.

Oborevwori’s felicitation was contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ekpen Ahon, in Asaba, joining them to thank God for another wonderful year of democracy in Nigeria.  He stated that Nigerians deserved to celebrate despite the numerous challenges bedeviling the country.

The governor expressed optimism about the growth of Nigeria’s democracy, citing enhancements in electoral laws, encouraging the citizens to leverage the reforms to elect leaders inclined to promote good governance and the well-being of the nation.

Oborevwori said: “I extend warm congratulations to all Nigerians, especially the people of Delta State and its residents, as we commemorate the 2024 Democracy Day, marking the first anniversary of this administration. Over the past 25 years, we have embarked on an uninterrupted democratic voyage.”

MEANWHILE, the Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, in a state broadcast to mark this year’s Democracy Day, called on Nigerians to use the day to rediscover the spirit of nationhood and the power of unity.

He said that the celebration points to three connected developments in the country’s political evolution, stating that the unforgettable sacrifices that happened between June 12, 1993, when an election that was considered the freest and fairest in the history of Nigeria was suddenly annulled, and May 29, 1999, when we went the full circle and ushered in the Fourth Republic, following the election and swearing in of democratically elected leaders across the federation.
