Oborevwori visits family of two-year-old killed by NDLEA officials

Congratulates Nigerian Idol Season 8 winner
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, yesterday, visited the family of two-year-old Ivan Omorhiakogbe, who was killed by stray bullets from operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in Okpanam, near Asaba, on Thursday, July 13.

This was at the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, where the one-year-old younger brother of the deceased, Eromonsele, who also sustained bullet injuries in the eye, was receiving treatment.

The governor commiserated with the family, assuring that efforts would be made to bring the culprits to book.


He said the police were already investigating the matter, and would make their findings known to the public at the end of the inquiry.

He added: “On behalf of the state government and people of Delta State, we commiserate with you and your family over the loss of your son, Ivan.

“We have confidence in the police, as you know. They are carrying out their investigation, and would make the outcome public. So, be rest assured that the culprits would be brought to book.”

He commended medical personnel at the hospital for being proactive in treating Eromonsele, assuring that the state government would foot the medical bills.


Police Commissioner, Wale Abass, assured the governor and the bereaved family of the Command’s commitment to ensuring thorough investigation into the matter.

Briefing the governor, earlier, the hospital’s Head, Department of Opthalmology, Dr. Ernest Ogbedo, said the medical team had successfully covered the little boy’s affected eye to prevent infections, saying further surgeries would be carried out on the eye.

MEANWHILE, Oborevwori has congratulated the winner of Nigerian Idol Season Eight, Victory Gbakara.

The governor described Victory, son of the Founder of God’s Will Mission, Archbishop Solomon Gbakara, as a true son and proud ambassador of the state. 

Victory, who hails from Usiefrun, in Ughievwen Kingdom, Ughelli South Council of the state, beat fellow finalist, Precious Mac, from Bayelsa State, to emerge winner of the reality television singing competition, on Sunday. 
  
By his Victory’s success, Delta State indigenes has now won the competition back-to-back, following another Deltan, Progress Chukwuyem, from Ekwueze-Abavo, Ika South Council, who emerged winner of Season Seven. 
 
Oborevwori, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, said the 26-year old lawyer, singer and songwriter was impeccable and electrifying throughout the competition, thanking all those who voted for his emergence as the star prize winner.
