Oborovwori tasks youths to join armed forces

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori

Delta State governor, Sheriff Oborovwori, has raised concern over the decline of the number of youths seeking enlistments and recruitments into the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force and the Nigerian Police Force.

Oborevwori, who spoke via his Chief Executive Officer, Delta State Orientation Bureau (DSOB) and Executive Assistant on Communication, Dr. Wilfred Latimore Oghenesivbe, in Asaba, yesterday, said that it sounds funny that many qualified Deltans have not shown interest in serving their country through the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

Piqued by this ugly development, he implored qualified youths across the state to have a change of heart by taking advantage of the ongoing admission and enlistment exercise to serve the nation via the armed forces.

To get the desired results, however, the governor gave a matching order to DSOB to embark on holistic sensitisation of citizens via multifaceted strategies and the mass media to upscale the number of applicants into the armed forces and police.

He said: “I’m worried over the rapid decline in the number of Delta applicants for admission into the (NDA), as well as applicants for direct enlistments and recruitments into the armed forces and police.

“Qualified Deltans, especially our Youth, should see the NDA, direct enlistments and recruitments into the armed forces and the police, as potential opportunities for key employment and professional career development.
