In response to recent allegations made against Octavus Petroleum Limited concerning the supply of contaminated aviation fuel to Max Air, the company’s General Manager, Mr. Peter Dia, has categorically denied these claims, stating that they are unfounded and ill-intentioned.

Mr. Dia, in a statement made available to The Guardian, asserted that Octavus stands by the integrity and quality of its products and refutes any attempts to tarnish the company’s reputation.

Mr Dia said Octavus Petroleum Limited is a prominent aviation fuel supplier, known for its commitment to adhering to international standards and industry best practices in fuel supply and distribution. He also said the company sources its products exclusively from trusted partners such as the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and British Petroleum (BP). He added that with a track record of safe and timely deliveries of high-quality aviation fuels, Octavus takes pride in its service to both Nigerian and international carriers.

Addressing the incidents involving Max Air’s aircraft, Mr. Dia clarified that there was no evidence linking the fuel supplied by Octavus to the reported occurrences. He points out that Octavus has successfully fueled approximately 90 percent of Max Air’s Hajj flights, and those aircraft continue to operate without any issues.

The statement noted that Octavus handles around 100 flights per day, equating to approximately one flight every 10 minutes, and has not received any complaints about the quality of its products. The company also stated that its reliability has been recognised by the Airlines Operators of Nigeria (AON), which nominated Octavus five times to handle the NNPC Intervention cargoes during the fuel crisis of 2022, thus underscoring the trust placed in their brand.

While acknowledging the complexities of aviation operations, Mr. Dia emphasized the importance of conducting a comprehensive investigation to identify the actual root cause of the reported incidents. He also said Octavus is fully cooperating with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and other relevant authorities in conducting a thorough inquiry.

Mr. Dia also assured the public that Octavus remains committed to upholding the highest safety and quality standards in the aviation sector, adding that the company will leave no stone unturned in uncovering the truth behind the allegations and that it will continue to collaborate closely with regulatory bodies to ensure the utmost safety and integrity in the aviation industry.
