Offiong thanks NTTF, assures of success at Lagos Open

One of the top seeds at the on-going Lagos leg of the ITTF World Tour, Edem Offiong, has praised the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) for giving the country’s players the opportunity to try their might against some of the world’s best stars.

Offiong, who assured Nigerians that she would excel at the competition holding at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, believes the experience some of the upcoming stars would garner from the Lagos Open would help the country in its battle to regain its position as the best table tennis playing nation in Africa.

Yesterday at the Lagos Open, Offiong lost to compatriot, Cecilia Akpan, and defeated Yaya Sidikat, Edem said that participating in Egypt Open has given her the sharpness to excel in Lagos.

“My current performance could be attributed to the competition in Egypt, where I played so well that I couldn’t believe I could play that much. It has helped to keep me sharp,” she said.
She added: “I must commended the efforts of the Federation in the provision of facilities for the tournament. We have world-class facilities here, which help the players to achieve their very best. I don’t think anybody here can complain about anything.”
