Ogun accident: Gas truck, victims, debris evacuated


The bodies of a motor boy, truck and others have been evacuated from the scene of the accident that occurred on Saturday, April 27 in Ogun State. A portion of Ita-Oshin road in Abeokuta, Ogun State was closed down after a disastrous fire incident happened as a result of a truck driver driving dangerously with 10 gas cylinders around 5. p.m.


The situation is now under control, with personnel from Sabo llupeju Division and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) were also present. Spokesperson for Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola said the truck crashed due to brake failure. She said: The truck driver lost control and rammed into an improvised barrier erected to divide the expressway and then exploded into flames.

The driver who drove the truck conveying 10 gas cylinders labeled Gasco Marine Bar 250, fled the scene, leaving the motor boy to get trapped in the explosion.

The mutilated remains of the motor boy have been evacuated to General Hospital ljaiye. The Ogun State Fire Service responded swiftly to put out the fire, but about four unidentified vehicles and five shops were gutted with fire.

The Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun, lamented the tragic incident and ordered the Area Commander Metro to oversee the rescue operations. Other officials of the State are working with the Police to ensure the debris is cleared under close monitoring.
