Ogun assures private sector of continued collaboration

Ogun State government has assured Lafarge Africa Plc of continued collaboration with the private sector in addressing the challenges of sustainable economic growth and job creation.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, who made the remark during a recent courtesy visit by the management team of Lafarge Africa Plc to his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, also lauded the company for the positive contributions to the socio-economic development of Ogun State.

Acknowledging the company’s longstanding commitment to the local economy, Abiodun emphasised the crucial role it has played in the state’s economic development, which exemplified commitment to sustainable growth and community empowerment. He added that the company’s extensive operations and investments have significantly contributed to job creation and overall economic prosperity.

He commended the company for its impact on industrial activities, providing employment opportunities for residents and fostering skills development, as well as enhancing the quality of life for residents through Corporate Social Responsibility such as investments in education, healthcare, and community infrastructure.

The governor noted that the collaboration between Lafarge and the state government has enhanced the resilience of the state during the COVID-19 pandemic through the provision of equipped clinics for COVID-19 patients, and medical supplies.

In response, Lafarge Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, highlighted the company’s 64-year history of contributing to the economic growth of Ewekoro. The Lafarge CEO said, “Lafarge is part of the Holcim Group. A commitment to the sustainable development of every community and every country in which we operate is a fundamental, non-negotiable principle in our business.”

According to Alade-Akinyemi, the company’s commitment to sustainable development is nested in four pillars- circular economy, climate and energy, and people.
