Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS) has said it will block revenue leakages through collaboration with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to surpass the revenue target this year.

Executive Chairman of OGIRS, Olugbenga Olaleye, disclosed this in Abeokuta, yesterday, during a budget strategy session.

He said the agency would ensure that the state delivers more than the targeted N155 billion Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), while leveraging on digitisation.

“The percentage increase over last year’s budget figure necessitated the collective efforts geared at blocking leakages and bringing all revenue into government coffers. When all units and MDAs work together, share ideas and information, areas of leakages and more revenue opportunities will be identified,” Olaleye said.

He enjoined all taxable adults in the state to pay appropriate taxes, as and when due, to complement government’s efforts and enhance provision of more social amenities, in line with electoral mandates.

In his contribution, Special Adviser to the Governor on Revenue, Mr. Abiodun Adeleye, said the programme was put together so that revenue officers could rub minds together, reflect on last year’s performance, strategise on how best to expand the tax net, boost revenue generation, and surpass the target for 2022.

Earlier, Director, Corporate Development Department, Mr. Taiwo Ogundimu, enjoined participants to identify areas where more revenue could be generated and focus their strength on achieving higher figures.
