The Chidi Ibeh-led faction of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, yesterday, hailed the decision of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to adopt the member representing Bende Federal Constituency, Ben Kalu, as preferred candidate for Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives in the 10th assembly.

The Igbo group maintained he is the best candidate from the South East for the position.

In a statement, in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, the Secretary General of the factional apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, maintained that the choice of Kalu was based on his unassuming disposition and track record of accomplishments.

Isiguzoro pleaded with other elected members, especially those from the South East, to support him.

According to the group, Kalu’s experience as the Chairman of House Committee on Information will assist the APC leadership and President-elect, Bola Tinubu, to curb activities of Biafra agitators and other secessionists.

He added that zoning the position to the region would promote national integration, unity, equity, justice, fairness, national prosperity and multi-ethnic diversity of Nigeria.
