The Chidi-Ibeh faction of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has condemned the recent attack by herdsmen in Nimbo Community in Uzo-Uwani Local Council of Enugu State, which resulted in the death of four persons.

Ohanaeze said that the killing was a heinous and deliberate assault on its people, particularly those living in boundary communities.

The group refused to accept that the attacks that led to the death of Okeh Oruku, Okeh Chukwuemeka, Julius Odiegwu and Gabriel Ezea were mere coincidences, following lamentations of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) over similar incidents.

In a statement, yesterday, by its Secretary General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the Ohanaeze faction called on South East governors, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and other relevant security agencies to launch a thorough investigation into these renewed killings.

The organisation further tasked the South East governors to reinstate the ban on the conveyance of cattle by foot within our region.

The statement reads in part: “The people of South East are, once again, facing a grave threat as herdsmen launch provocative and deadly attacks on innocent residents. The recent tragedy in the Nimbo Community in Uzo-Uwani Local Council of Enugu State resulting in the deaths of Okeh Oruku, Okeh Chukwuemeka, Julius Odiegwu and Gabriel Ezea is a stark reminder of the precarious situation faced by our communities.”
