Members of a youth group Okaigheles in Edo South on Wednesday promised to cooperate and partner with the Edo State Government, the Police, and other security agencies in ensuring continued peace in the state.
In a statement signed by 26 of the youth community leaders of “Okaigheles” in Benin City, the members appealed to the state government to rescind its decision to ban their activities as they always remain law-abiding.
They denied any knowledge of cult activities in Edo State and refuted claims of being members of any cult groups.
The group said its members do not constitute a security threat and have not been found wanted for any crime.
They appealed to the Edo state Commissioner of Police and other security agencies not to arrest, harass, or obstruct their members from carrying out their legitimate activities.
The youth leaders said they reserve legal rights to function as legitimate members of the various communities in the lawful capacity of Okaigheles and will take all legitimate steps to protect themselves from being molested or ill-treated.
