Omah Lay, Ayra Starr join Libianca on People

Omah Lay

Since Chris Brown reposted the Cameroonian chanteuse’s song on his Instagram page, life has been different for Libianca Fonji. With one of the most covered songs on social media, the young songbird has found fame with her 2022 breakout jam, People. Now, after its soaring successes, Libianca taps her Soul-seeking compatriots, Omah Lay, and Ayra Starr, respectively, to spin off a new version of the melancholic melody.

While Ayra brings her own ‘Celestial’ energy with a gentle temperance on her verse, Omah Lay powers up the momentum of the song with more pensive flows and storytelling, reminiscent of his 2022 smash hit Soso.

People is Libianca’s coming-of-age record, shining for its sheer simplicity and honesty. Centering on the subject of mental health and the myriad realities including her own struggles with Cyclothymia, a rare mood disorder.

“I’ve been drinking more alcohol for the past five days, did you check on me?” the song’s hook inclines one to ponder, despite the volume of excitement the Soul/Pop fusion melody incites.

A former contestant on The Voice America, the US-born singer honed her skills as a vocalist mentoring under Blake Shelton. She had trained as a professional musician for over 7 years, before her big break, last year.

With relatable songwriting and a powerful vocal as her biggest ammunition, it’s evident Libianca is aiming for the kill with her emergence into the Afrobeats space.
