Omirhobo demands details of N90b Hajj spending from AGoF

Human rights lawyer, Chief Malcolm Omirhobo has demanded from the Accountant General of the Federation (AGoF), the details of the N30 billion used by the Federal Government to subsidise the cost of the Pilgrimage for the 2024 Hajj.


Leveraging on relevant provisions of the Freedom of Information Act, the lawyer requested for the certified true copy of the payment vouchers and all supporting documents relating to the fund.

“We are a firm of Attorneys and Solicitors of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, who are passionate about good governance and proper administration at all levels.


“On the strength of the relevant sections of the Freedom of Information Act 2011, we humbly request for the certified true copy of the payment voucher and all supporting documents (request, policies, minutes, approval, bank statement etc.) relating to the disbursement of the sum of N90 billion used to subsidise the cost of Pilgrimage for the 2024 Hajj by the Federal Government.

“Take notice that in the event of any delay or refusal to disclose the information within seven days from the date of your receipt of this request, we shall be compelled to take lawful and necessary steps to compel you to disclose the information in accordance with Section 20 and other provisions of the Freedom of Information Act, 2011,” he declared.

He undertook to bear the financial cost of making the requested information available in line with Section 8 of the Freedom of Information Act, 2011.
