Ondo State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed Olayide Adelami as the deputy governor of the state. Adelami’s nomination was confirmed during a plenary presided over by the Speaker, Olamide Oladiji.

The former Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly and kinsman of the late former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu was confirmed following the submission and consideration of a report by the House Selection Committee, chaired by the Speaker.

The Clerk of the Assembly, Jaiyeola Benjamin, had earlier read the letter sent to the House by the Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, requesting the consideration of the nominee for the vacant position of deputy governor.

Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Abayomi Akinruntan, while submitting the report of the committee, said that the nominee convincingly responded to all questions raised by the committee during the screening.

According to Akinruntan, the nominee has a clear understanding of the position, adding that he possessed the required academic qualifications and is fit to accomplish the task.

Majority Leader of the Assembly, Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, moved the motion for the report to be considered and the nominees to be confirmed, which was seconded by Felix Afe, representing Akoko North West Constituency II.
The Speaker, who, therefore, ruled for the confirmation, congratulated the deputy governor-designate, urging him to put in his best.

He, however, pledged the support of the House to the Executive for the people to enjoy more dividends of democracy. On his part, Adelami appreciated Aiyedatiwa for nominating him, promising not to betray the emotion and confidence reposed in him.

He also appreciated the lawmakers for the efforts put in place during the screening and confirmation, noting that promoting understanding between arms of government will be his priority.
