Ondo declares two-day holiday for Akeredolu’s burial

The Ondo State Government has declared Thursday, February 22nd, and Friday, February 23rd, 2024, as public holidays.

Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa announced the public holidays in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan.

The statement disclosed that the holiday is declared to honour the late former governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, who passed away in December 2023.

It noted that the two work-free days will allow the people of the state to participate in the ongoing burial activities for the late governor, which began last Thursday.


Ajabue (traditional rites) will be held in Owo from 9 am to 4 pm on Wednesday, February 21.
A Special Court Session will take place at 10 am in Court 1, Ondo State High Court Headquarters, Hospital Road, Akure.

Lying in State and Commendation Service will be held at Akure Township Stadium at 1 pm, followed by an Evening of Tributes at St Andrews Church, Imola Street, Owo, from 4 pm to 7 pm.

On Thursday, February 22, which is a public holiday, there will be a Service of Songs at St Andrews Cathedral on Imola Street in Owo at 4 pm.


Following that, a Wake-Keep will be held at Maranatha Villa in Owo at 8 pm.

Later in the evening, from 8 pm till dawn, there will be a candlelight procession and World Gyration organised by the Kegites Club.
