Ondo Guber Poll: I am not Tinubu ‘s anointed candidate, says Oke

…As Morayo Lebi pledges to harness mineral resources in the state

Ondo state governorship aspirant on the platform of the ruling All progressives Congress (APC), Chief Olusola Oke has faulted the notions held in certain quarters that he is the anointed candidate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.


This is as another aspirant on the platform of the party, Barr Morayo Lebi pledged to harness the vast mineral resources in the state for the benefit of the citizenry.

Speaking to reporters after submitting his expression of interest and nomination forms at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja, he remarked that Tinubu is disposed to creating a level playing field for all the governorship aspirants of the party.

Acknowledging that he has worked closely with President Tinubu over the years, he noted: “Our President is a democrat. He does not indulge in anointing anybody. I am very close to him and I can tell you that he wants free and fair primary election. The President wants to give everybody equal opportunity.”

Oke, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) explained that the resolve by the Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje led national working committee (NWC) to use the direct mode to conduct the party primary because it is not very prone to abuse and manipulation as is the case with the indirect mode.

Oke who said he would want to be remembered for even development and enhancing the welfare of the citizenry in Ondo state believe that it has been ordained by God for him to administer the state this time around.

Stating that he is drawing his inspiration from former president Muhammadu Buhari who contested thrice before he realized his aspiration, he decried the high level of poverty, unemployment and moral decadence in the state.


Oke promised to revive agriculture, technical education and create industrial and technological hubs across the entire local councils to reposition the state for sustainable growth and development.

Lebi who hails from Akotogbo, in Irele local council of the state decried the over-reliance of the state on statutory allocations from Abuja on monthly basis.

Lebi who aspired for the Ondo South Senatorial district seat promised to ensure even participation in the affairs of governance of the state for all the card carrying members of the party if elected into power.

Stating that he would encourage women participation in the governance of the state, he pledged to abide by the party decision to support whoever emerge as the flag bearer of the party in the governorship poll.
