.My military background will give me edge over other aspirants, says Ohunyeye

A pressure group group, Ondo Redemption Front (ORF), yesterday, said that imposition of candidates on Ondo State people would not be allowed ahead of the governorship election in the state.

It said that the forthcoming election should be an avenue for the people to choose their leaders without any plan to foist candidates on them.

Chairman of the group, Ayo Ologun, who stated this during a media briefing in Akure, the state capital, said that the “Emilokan” mindset would not work or be tolerated in the forthcoming election.

Ologun said endorsing or imposing candidates on any of the political parties would derail the seamless and democratic process aimed at selecting the best candidate for the election.

He said: “As we countdown to the elections, it will not be business as usual. Nobody should see the coming election as a right. The Emilokan mindset will not work or be tolerated.

“The people of the state will not be swayed by mundane things that stem from propaganda but will be more concerned about the antecedents of the aspirants, their track records, character, record in public service, and sign of empathy for the people they seek to govern.
“In our pursuit of a redeemed and transformed Ondo State, we recognise the importance of collaborating with various stakeholders, from civil society organisations to the media, and most importantly, the citizens themselves.”

Meanwhile, a governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Brig.-Gen. Olumide Ohunyeye (rtd), yesterday, said that with his 36 years of military background experience, he is poised to clinch the ticket of the party ahead of the governorship election in the state.

Besides, the aspirant emphasised that with the administrative, human and financial resource management training he received as a military personnel, he is fully equipped to lead the state.

Ohunyeye, who stated this while declaring his governorship ambition at the APC secretariat in Akure, the state capital.

He stressed that if given the mandate to lead the state in November, there would be a turnaround across various sectors.

According to him, a blueprint that will be used to effect changes in the areas of health, infrastructure and education, among others, has already been prepared.
