Ondo poll: Jimoh Ibrahim challenges Aidatiwa to an open contest

Senator representing Ondo South Senatorial district, Mr Jimoh Ibrahim has challenged the Governor of the state, Lucky Aidatiwa to an open contest for the governorship ticket of the party.


Speaking to reporters at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja, he faulted the notions held in certain quarters that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had endorsed Aidatiwa to retain the governorship seat of the state.

“It is stupid to say you are going for endorsement. Politics is about democracy and democracy is about numbers. You can never get into this office by endorsement, ” he said.

“Was Asiwaju endorsed? When we did the primaries here in Abuja, Buhari was just looking at everything that was going on. At the end of the day Asiwaju won the election. So if you have done very well, go to the field and canvass for votes.”

He also said there is no iota of truth that he struck a deal with one of the governorship aspirant, Chief Olusola Oke that he would step down from the governorship race for him.

Ibrahim who chairs the Senate Committee on Inter Parliamentary relation worldwide disclosed that he has set aside the sum of N140 million to assist supporters of the party in Ondo state update their membership forms , ahead of the party primaries before the end of this month.

Promising to deploy technology to secure lives and properties in the state, he pledged to turn Ondo state into another Dubai if voted into power.


The business mogul particularly singled out the large deposit of natural bitumen of about 42.47 billion tonnes of bitumen at Agbabu as an area he would preoccupy his attention to reposition the state for sustainable growth and development.

This is as Governor Aiyedatiwa who submitted his nomination and expression of interest forms expressed confidence of emerging victorious at the party primary election.

Promising to consolidate on his achievements so far if given opportunity to fly the ticket of the party, he cited the payment of salaries, pension and other arrears being owed since 2014 as some of the inroads recorded since he assumed office.

Accompanied by several state officials and lawmakers, Aiyedatiwa pledged to sustain the developmental strides recorded in tbe state since within the last seven and half years.
