Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, yesterday, warned politicians against acts capable of causing unrest in the state ahead of the party’s primaries in April and the governorship polls slated for November 16, 2024.

Aiyedatiwa, who said that no form of violence would be tolerated, appealed to political actors to play by the rules of the game. The governor, in his New Year broadcast to the people of the state, said that as the state gears towards the governorship polls, the state’s political space should be dominated by ideas and not attacks.

He said: “As we are all aware, this is also the year for our governorship election. Expectedly, political activities will gain prominence as we march towards the election.”

Aiyedatiwa, who assured residents of the state that the New Year would bring dividends of good governance that will restore their faith in the administration, pledged his commitment to re-engineering the infrastructural development of the state.

Aiyedatiwa said: “As we have promised, we will not only give our late former governor a befitting state burial but will also immortalise his name, just as we will strive to complete all the developmental projects he embarked upon as governor of the state.

“His death was preceded by events that tested us in diverse ways, but those challenges have shaped our resolve to, more than ever before, bring our people together and pursue the attainment of a peaceful and prosperous Ondo State. It is time to put the past behind us and focus all our human and material resources on building on the foundation that this administration has so far laid.”

Meanwhile, Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Ade Adetimehin, has urged members of the party in the state to unite and rally round Aiyedatiwa for him to succeed in his new role. He urged APC members in the state not to jeopardise the chances of the party from being victorious in the November 16 governorship election in the state.

The APC chairman, in his New Year message, implored members of the ruling party to collapse personal interests into party considerations in 2024. He said the best way to make the party more appealing to the electorate and gladiators from other political parties is to ensure unity and as well promote discipline.

Adetimehin, who expressed regret over the death of the former governor and leader of the state chapter, OluwarotimiAkeredolu, said: “Today, we have a new leader of the party. We must unite and support him to succeed.”

He also urged party leaders to consider unity of purpose and selflessness as panacea for development of the party, stressing that the APC will prove its popularity during the forthcoming governorship election by emerging victorious.

According to him, the economic situation of the country will begin to witness steady improvement “as the benefits of subsidy removal manifest.
