Amotekun Corps arrests three alleged kidnappers, recovers firearms from suspect
A 35-year-old suspected robber, Olamide Wasiu, yesterday, confessed to stealing over 100 motorcycles within three months in various towns across Ondo State.
Wasiu disclosed that after stealing the motorcycles, he will dismantle them before onward delivery to buyers in Oyo, Osun, and Ogun states.
According to the suspect, who was paraded at the headquarters of Ondo State Security Network Agency, otherwise known as Amotekun Corps, inAlagbaka in Akure, his major buyer escaped to Abuja when he was nabbed by Amotekun operatives.
Speaking on the arrest, the Amotekun Commander in the state, Adetunji Adeleye, said investigation has commenced towards apprehending other members of the gang.
Adeleye also said operatives have been deployed to Abuja to track down and arrest the suspected buyer.
He said: “The success recorded in Ondo State was attributed to the synergy with all security agencies and journalists’ timely dissemination of information.
“We have a syndicate, headed by Olamide Wasiu, that specialises and operates within Ondo, Osun, Oyo and Ogun states in the theft of motorcycles. There is always a buyer, who comes in midway with a truck to harvest all the motorcycles that have been stolen from Ondo State.
“We had been on the trail of the syndicate, and we were able to apprehend the ringleader, who confessed that he had stolen over 100 motorcycles within three months from Ondo State.
Similarly, the agency arrested a 45-year-old suspected rapist, Sunday Aboto, who was also found with three firearms during a search of his apartment by Amotekun operatives.
“Also, we have a rape suspect; when we searched his house, we found out that he has three guns, and we are able to establish that he hires these guns criminals, among other offences, and we are rounding up our investigations and sending them to the competent court to commence their trial.”
The Amotekun boss added: “We also arrested a syndicate of kidnappers, where we have the ringleader who confessed to the crime.
“We also have a 49-year-old man, Olusegun Adegoroye, who is in possession of military clothing, including a cap and boot, along with the arms they use to carry out their operation.”
