“A devastating fire tore through the Docemo area in Lagos Island yesterday, causing extensive damage to 14 buildings. Unfortunately, one life was lost in the incident,” Adeseye said.

“The victim was refuelling a working generator, which sparked the fire. Additionally, nine individuals suffered from carbon monoxide inhalation, while one sustained a fracture.

“All affected individuals were promptly treated and discharged on-site by the Emergency Management Service. Thanks to the swift response of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the blaze has been contained.”

Adeseye stated that currently, efforts are underway to dampen down the affected area as damage assessment and preventive measures are being implemented.

She had earlier said that before firefighters successfully contained the major fire incident, two structures fully collapsed while two other buildings partially collapsed.

Adeseye added that the enumeration of shops and goods lost are ongoing, and preventive measures will be enforced.

According to her, all the state’s emergency responders including that of the national and private partners are collaborating at the scene.

The LSFRS boss also urged the public to handle combustible materials with caution to prevent future incidents.

In a related development, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service announced that a fire incident occurred at 48 Breadfruit Street, Apongbon, Lagos Island on Monday.

LSFRS said Monday’s fire incident at the three-storey building housing various hair wigs was as a result of the careless handling of a generator.

Adeseye while confirming the incident in a statement said no casualty was recorded, though.
