Onwusibe wins Reps seat for LP in Abia

Ginger Onwusibe

Labour Party (LP) House of Representatives candidate, Ginger Onwusibe, has been declared winner of Isiala Ngwa North and South Federal Constituency of Abia State.

Onwusibe defeated his main challenger and the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prof. Anthony Agbazuere. Onwusibe was a former PDP member of Abia House of Assembly.

He scored 20,411 votes to emerge victorious in the House of Representatives election and, thus, is the first member of Labour Party to be officially declared winner of a National Assembly seat in Saturday’s election. His PDP opponent, who was the Chief of Staff to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, polled 13,508 votes.

The Labour Party candidate defeated Agbazuere even in his Isiala Ngwa South Council. Onwusibe had left the PDP, following controversies, which trailed the party primary to join Labour Party.

Meanwhile, results of presidential election for Enugu, announced at the State Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters, yesterday, showed that Labour Party has won in two councils so far announced.

The councils include Nkanu East and Enugu South. According to the Collation Officer for Nkanu East Council, Scholastica Eze, LP polled 11,746; APC, 94 and PDP, 1430.

For Enugu South Council, the Collation Officer, Patricia Agor, reported that LP polled 38,511 votes against PDP’s 336 votes; All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) 201 and All Progressives Congress (APC) 6.
