This may not be the best of times for the Super Eagles’ technical crew, who are preparing for a massive showdown with old foes, South Africa on June 7.

With about two weeks to the must-win 2026 World Cup qualifier against the Bafana Bafana in Uyo, there are fears that many of the country’s top stars may not be fit for the game.

Already, Coach Finidi George and his crew are sweating on the fitness of Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen and AC Milan strongman, Samuel Chukwueze. The trio of Moses Simon, Zaidu Sanusi and Tyrone Ebuehi are already out of the qualifier. And now, they may be joined by Brentford FC midfielder, Frank Onyeka, who is currently nursing an injury.

Reports say the defensive midfielder is doubtful for the game, but even then, the former FC Midtjylland star is upbeat that Nigeria will overcome the South Africans and Benin Republic is the second game of the qualifiers next month.

Onyeka told online media that the Super Eagles would give their all in the upcoming World Cup qualifying games.

“In all seriousness, we have to go to that game with everything because of what it means to us and to the country. Two points from two games is not good, so we need to win our next two games. We’ll give everything and be ready for it,” he added.

On the game against Benin Republic, which comes just three days after the clash with South Africa, Onyeka said: “We know Gernot Rohr and it’s not going to be easy. The teams in Africa are not easy to play against, so we’ll go with all seriousness in the hopes that we get the win.”

It is yet to be confirmed if Onyeka will be in the Super Eagles squad for their World Cup qualifiers as he’s battling a knock, reports soccernet.ng.
