Miller Dantawaye assumes duty as FCT police commissioner

The newly appointed Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, CP Miller Dantawaye, has officially assumed duty as the 34th helmsman of the Command.

He took over the reins from his predecessor, CP Ajao Saks Adewale, who has been redeployed to another strategic post by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, on Friday.

A native of Afogo in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Dantawaye was born on October 15, 1971, to the family of the late DCP Gajere Dantawaye.

He is a seasoned officer with over two decades of distinguished service, having joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent in May 2000.

Dantawaye’s policing career began at the Bayelsa State Command in 2002 and has since spanned several strategic and command positions across the country.

He previously served as a Divisional Crime Officer in Yenagoa, Acting Aide-de-Camp to a former Governor of Bayelsa State, Escort Commander to the then-Vice President and later the President, and Commanding Officer of MOPOL 24, Presidential Villa.

He also held senior leadership positions, including Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations), FCT Command; Area Commander, Karewa (Adamawa State); Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Yobe and Edo States; and Commissioner of Police (Information Technology), Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Until his redeployment, he served as the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, where he was credited with enhancing operational efficiency and fostering community engagement.

The new FCT police boss holds a Diploma in Business Administration from Kaduna State Polytechnic; a B.Sc. in International Studies from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; and a Master’s in International Studies from the University of Ilorin.

He has attended several local and international professional courses, including Combat Operations and Counter-Terrorism in Gwoza, VVIP Protection in Israel, and the Strategic Leadership and Command Course at the Police Staff College, Jos.

An Associate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and an active Rotarian, Dantawaye is known for his passion for innovation, professionalism, and community safety.

Upon assumption of duty, CP Dantawaye pledged to consolidate ongoing security measures, enhance community-police collaboration, and prioritise the safety of all residents of the Federal Capital Territory.

He urged Abuja residents to cooperate with the police in maintaining peace and order, assuring them that the Command would operate with transparency and renewed vigour in tackling emerging security challenges.
