I recently came across the requirement for individuals to pay a whopping $5 million to acquire American citizenship. I must say that I am not only shocked but also amused by this proposition.

I recently came across the requirement for individuals to pay a whopping $5 million to acquire American citizenship. I must say that I am not only shocked but also amused by this proposition.

As a proud Nigerian, I strongly believe that my citizenship is superior to American citizenship in many ways. While the United States may boast of its economic and military prowess, Nigeria offers something that no amount of money can buy – a sense of community, a rich cultural heritage, and a resilient people.

Furthermore, I am aware that there are many American citizens who are struggling to make ends meet. Homelessness, poverty, and violence are rampant in many parts of the country. The unmitigated violence, road rage, and school shootings that plague American society are a stark reminder that there is more to life than just material wealth.

In contrast, Nigeria offers a unique blend of traditional and modern values. Our culture is rich and vibrant, our people are warm and hospitable, and our music and art are world-renowned. With $5 million, I can live a life of comfort and luxury in Nigeria, support the less privileged, and be the best version of myself.

I would rather invest my money in a country that values community, family, and tradition. I would rather use my resources to make a positive impact on the lives of those around me. I would rather be a proud Nigerian, with all its challenges and opportunities, than a citizen of a country that prioritises wealth and power above all else.

I reject the notion that American citizenship is worth $5 million. I believe that true wealth and happiness come from living a life of purpose, community, and service to others. And I firmly believe that Nigeria, with all its flaws and imperfections, is a better place to live, work, and thrive.

Please hold my hands and say after me
“I refuse to be held captive by the chains of hatred and resentment. Instead, I choose to rise above the noise of division and embrace the beauty of our diversity.

We are not Hausa, Igbo, or Yoruba; we are Nigerians. We are not enemies; we are brothers and sisters, connected by our shared humanity. The past may have been marred by violence and bloodshed, but the future belongs to us. Let us not be prisoners of our past, but rather architects of a brighter tomorrow.

Let us celebrate our differences, even as we recognise our commonalities. Let us strive for a Nigeria where every child can grow up without fear of persecution or marginalisation.

Peace is not just the absence of conflict; it is the presence of justice, equality, and compassion. Let us pursue peace with all our hearts, and work towards a future where every Nigerian can thrive.

We are stronger together than we are apart. Let us build bridges, not walls. Let us choose love over hate, and compassion over resentment. Together, we can create a Nigeria that is just, equitable, and peaceful. A Nigeria where every voice is heard, and every life is valued.
Let us start today. Let us choose peace.
