Commander, Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) and General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj-Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, has assured the people of Mangu Local Council, Plateau State, of his commitment to end the crisis in the state.

Abubakar gave the assurance, yesterday, at a peace meeting with Mwaghavul and Fulani stakeholders to find lasting solution to security challenges in Mangu.

The commander gave both sides the privilege to voice their grievances to find out what led to the attacks and subsequent reprisals that lasted three months.

In a statement by Military Information Officer (MIO) of OPSH, Capt. Oya James, the commander urged both parties to embrace peace for Mangu development, pleading with them to sheathe their swords as a welcome gift to him on the Plateau.

Further, the commander promised to take the meeting to people in remote areas, where victims and the youths would be sensitised on the need to embrace peace. He advised the stakeholders to take the message home to their people.

Abubakar assured them of the willingness of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Caleb Mutfwang to end the crisis and compensate those affected by the crisis, to mitigate the impact of the crisis on them.

Chairman of Mangu Local Council, Markus Artu, thanked the commander for initiating a stakeholders’ meeting at the critical period and for remaining in Mangu to make sure peace is returned to the area.

He urged the warring parties to embrace peace and take the commander’s promises to heart, and for the sacrifice he had made by relocating to Mangu to restore normalcy.
