Orchard: Cultivating tech inclusion in STEM

In line with the government’s intervention to drive female inclusion within the Educational Sector, an Edtech organisation, Orchard is driving inclusion through her initiatives aimed at driving STEM inclusion. At an event themed: “Bridging the Gap” held recently, which brought together hundreds of women to learn and collaborate with seasoned professsionals.

The audience which included participants ranging from aspiring software engineers, designers and product managers featured a dynamic panel discussion with prominent figures in the tech world. Temitope Oladokun, a Senior Technical Product Manager, and Obiageli Meniru, a Product Manager at GiffGaff, UK shared their inspiring stories and valuable insights.


The audience, eager to learn from these accomplished women, engaged with questions revolving around the panelists’ journeys, how they got their start in tech, or how they transitioned from different career paths into the tech field. Their experiences resonated deeply with the attendees, sparking lively discussions and offering valuable guidance for aspiring female tech professionals.

During the event, Lead at Orchard Technology, George Odiana, emphasised the company’s strong commitment to diversity and inclusion within the tech industry. He unveiled Orchard’s ambitious goal of reaching 2 million women by 2030 and outlined the company’s ongoing efforts to bridge the gender gap in tech.

He stated that Orchard’s dedication to empowering women in tech goes far beyond this one-day event. Orchard fosters a culture of mentorship, pairing experienced women with mentees who are just starting their tech journeys. This personalised guidance provides invaluable support and helps shape the next generation of female leaders. Orchard also actively participates in outreach programs at schools, igniting a passion for STEM subjects in young girls. Interactive workshops and engaging presentations showcase the exciting possibilities within these fields, breaking down preconceived notions and encouraging them to pursue their tech dreams.

Recognising the financial barriers some may face, Orchard offers scholarships specifically for women pursuing STEM degrees. This financial aid, with support from Geminine Group, allows talented individuals to focus on their studies and pave the way for a successful tech career. Orchard champions diversity within its own workforce as well. Initiatives like internal workshops focused on developing technical skills and leadership training programs ensure women have the tools and support they need to advance in their careers.

Building on the momentum of “Bridging the Gap,” Chile Achije, the host proudly announced the launch of their upcoming tech Bootcamp in May! This intensive program provides a fantastic opportunity for women to gain hands-on experience in various tech fields, led by industry experts. It’s the perfect stepping stone for those seeking to launch or advance their careers in the tech industry.
