The organised labour, under the aegis of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Food and Beverages, Tobacco Senior Staff Association Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, yesterday, stormed the Lagos office of the National Agency for Food, Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) over the ban of alcoholic beverages in sachets and small bottles less than 200ml.

Vice President of TUC, Emmanuel Idogen, while addressing the protesters, said that several workers had already been rendered jobless from the factories shut down by NAFDAC.

He said: “We all know the economic hardship we are facing in the country. Price of fuel has increased, prices of food are increasing on a daily basis and there is inflation. Some of the people earn their living to feed their family members from the factory that you have shut down.

“We are appealing to NAFDAC to suspend the directive to shut down the production of alcoholic sachets drinks for the posterity of the masses.”

The protesters also went to the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Deputy Majority Leader of the Assembly, Adedamola Kasunmu, on behalf of the Speaker, empathised with the protesters, assuring them of justice and fair play in handling the sensitive issues.
