Nigerian artiste ORIGINAL GANGSTER [OG] has released two singles – UNTITLED & COLD ROOM.
Raised in Nigeria’s South-Western state of Oyo by an influential family and strict parents, the artist said his journey into music started taking root as far back as 2017, before evolving into a serious commitment only recently in 2023.
Drawing inspiration from iconic rap heavyweights like 2Pac and Skepta, OG said he has shaped a unique style for his music – a fusion of raw intensity and motivational essence, defining his stance as an “Original Gangster” destined for the top without rivalry.
He said his creative process is marked by spontaneity, where lyrics effortlessly flow to the beats. This was demonstrated on ‘UNTITLED’ – one of his latest releases, which came to life in less than an hour according to the artiste. His overarching message urges listeners towards education, steering clear of drugs and firearms to avert tragic consequences.
It does not come as a surprise that some of his favourites in the contemporary music scene include SKEPTA, STORMZY, DIGGA D, CENTRAL C, LOSKY, M HUNCHO, and KWENGFACE, considering that these are some of the biggest names in the drill genre globally. In the moments when he is not listening to his projects, OG immerses himself in the drill beats of “HOME TOWN” by BANDOKAY.
With the support of a dedicated team, OG said he envisions a future marked by success, promising a continuous and unstoppable journey with upcoming projects. He has also expressed interest in collaborating with ODUMODUBLVCK, the artist who recognizes the versatility of a fellow drill artist.
While agreeing with the industry’s potential for improvement, OG said he sees the addition of the Best African Music Performance category at the Grammy Awards 2023 as a positive step.
