Immediate past Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, has described the maiden Otolokpo Unity Carnival as unprecedented.  Otolokpo is an agrarian community in Ika North East Council of the state.

Okowa, who also described the carnival as a historic milestone, said it would set the stage for cultural renaissance in the area and beyond. The former governor commended organisers and cultural troupes for showcasing the essence of old Ika culture and traditions.

While expressing optimism about the sustainability of the carnival, Okowa said the carnival would herald a cultural renaissance and breathe new life into the rich traditions of the people and pledged his support to make the carnival a yearly event.

He appreciated the visionary leadership of the President General, Otolokpo Development Union (ODU), David Igbodo, and his executives, calling for collaborative efforts to sustain the success recorded.

“Let’s continue to support the Otolokpo Development Union executives in this amazing initiative. I urge the Obi of Otolokpo, the executives of ODU and community members to sustain this. I pledge my support for its continuity, knowing that next year’s edition will be better than this.

In his remarks, Igbodo emphasised the need for a closer relationship with the government to address the community’s needs, saying he was impressed with the way and manner Otolokpo patriots rallied round to own the project within such a short period of its conception.
