Outrage over brutal killing of cleric, wife, missing son in Taraba

Forum of the clergy in Taraba State

The Forum of the clergy of Tiv extraction in Bali and Gashaka local government councils of Taraba State has expressed deep concern over the alleged brutal murder of Rev. Abah Jacob and his wife Mirrian.

The couple, along with several others, were reportedly killed by suspected militia youths last week in Mararaba, Donga local government council.

In a press briefing held on Saturday, the clergy lamented the perceived lack of urgency from authorities in addressing the killings.

Led by their chairman, Ven. Nathaniel Saawua, they appealed for assistance from compassionate individuals to support the victims and their families in coping with the physical and emotional trauma.

According to the clergy, Rev. Jacob and his wife were viciously murdered in Mararaba town, with their bodies found dumped at Mount Zion, a local school.

Shockingly, according to them, Rev. Jacob’s body was burnt beyond recognition, leaving uncertainties about the fate of his son, Kumator, who remains missing.

Prior to his tragic demise, The Guardian gathered that Rev. Jacob, served as a pastor with The African Church, Kyado Archdeaconry, stationed at The African Church Adi Parish in Bali Local Government Council.

The fatal incident, as made known by the forum, occurred as the family was traveling to their hometown in Ukum Local Government Council, Benue State.

Expressing dismay over the lack of government action, the clergy highlighted that the attack also claimed the lives of seven other innocent Tiv commuters, including Michael Ukari, Terundu Michael, Terna Orya, Sansani, Erdoo Aluga, Jacob Ternenge, Msega Joseph Mvihi, and Aondofa Member.

The clergy urged authorities to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators and ensure justice for the victims.

The tragic loss of Reverend Jacob and others, as noticed by our state correspondent, has sent shockwaves through the community, underscoring the urgent need for effective security measures to prevent further bloodshed.
