Oyo health workers declare seven-day warning strike today

Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), Oyo State chapter, has declared a seven-day warning strike to press home their demand.

This was contained in a letter titled, “Notification of Industrial Action,” issued in Ibadan by the state’s Chairman of the union, John Fabunmi.

Fabunmi said the warning strike followed the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the state government to attend to the union’s agitations.

According to Fabunmi, members of the MHWUN in health institutions, ministries, departments and local councils in the state are to proceed on the warning strike from midnight on Monday, June 24, 2024.

The letter reads: “Sequel to our letter with Ref. No. OYSC/MHWUN/ADM/INDU.ACT/05/24 dated May 27, 2024, on the above subject matter giving the state government a 14-day ultimatum to attend to all our grievances, we wish to draw the attention of Your Excellency to the fact that up till now, nothing has been done to assuage the present situation.

“In view of the present situation and agitations from every quarter, the union has therefore resolved to embark on a seven-day warning strike to further press for the attention of the government to attend to our agitations.

“All our members in all health institutions, ministries, departments and all local councils will be participating in the seven days warning strike, which will commence at midnight of Monday, June 24, 2024, after which further actions may be embarked upon.”
