Oyo Speaker tasks lawmakers on commitment as House resumes plenary

Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, yesterday, called for renewed commitment and zeal among the state’s lawmakers this year.

Ogundoyin, who made the call while welcoming his colleagues, staff members and management of the House to the first plenary of the year, urged the lawmakers to redouble their efforts to accomplish more legislative duties and oversight functions in 2022.

He assured that the Ninth House of Assembly will continue to set the pace for other state legislatures to follow, adding: “I welcome my colleagues and the staff of the House of Assembly back to legislative business. We went on recess on December 22, 2021 and now we are back to work again.


“I know we are poised to do more in terms of law making, passage of bills, making of motions and resolutions as well as attending vigorously to our oversight functions.”

Highpoint of the first plenary was the paying of tributes to the late Ashigangan of Igangan land, Oba Abdul Azeez Olawuyi Adeoye, the late Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, and the late former Governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao-Akala.

The plenary also featured a special interdenominational prayer sessions by Christian and Islamic clerics.
ALSO, the Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), yesterday, gave financial support to families of six officers, who died during active service.

Speaking at the event, the state Commandant of the corps, Michael Adaralewa, who disclosed this, said it was important to always carry the families of the fallen heroes along to motivate serving officers that their service was not in vain.

On his part, Superintendent Oloniyo Bright thanked the state commandant and the management team of the corps for supporting the idea of honouring the departed armed personnel, who died in active service.


Some of the deceased whose wives were given cash reward included late Omikunle Sunday, Olukayode Olusegun, Atilola Jacob, Adetunji Yinka, AbdulRasak Moshood and Oyewole Segun.

Adaralewa also enjoined other commands and military and para-military in the country to imbibe the spirit of giving to their fallen heroes as this would go a long way to assuage the suffering their families were going through and boost the trust and confidence of those alive to serve their country better.

“As NSCDC officers and men, the nation demands 100 per cent loyalty, discipline and absolute dedication to duty from us. Your welfare and safety is our top priority.

“I encourage the families and friends of the NSCDC personnel. Your prayers, love and emotional support, have facilitated our commitment and focus in our service,” he added.
