Oyo State has been selected to benefit from a $123.8m grant from the World Bank Global Partnership for Education (GPE) to upgrade infrastructure in 105 primary schools.
The project, known as All Additional Financing-Transforming Education System at States (BESDA AF-TEES), aims to improve basic education in the state.
The grant will cover the renovation of three classrooms, procurement of new infrastructure, construction of toilets for males and females, installation of boreholes, and installation of solar power in each of the selected schools. The total amount allocated to Oyo State is approximately N4b.
The schools selected for the project are spread across the three senatorial districts of the state. The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Mr. Bayo Lawal, yesterday, presented symbolic cheque to some of the benefiting schools, urging the School-Based Management Committee to monitor the project to ensure it is completed according to plan.
The Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Professor Salihu Adelabu, explained that the benefiting schools were picked based on assessed needs.
Some of the schools that got the symbolic cheque were Oluyole Local Council Primary School, Oba Ado; St. Luke’s Primary School, Akintunde; and Islamic Mission School, Sango, Eruwa.
Also, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education Intervention, Mr. Suraj Tiamiyu, added that the project will be completed within two weeks.
