Panic gripped the Baruba/Okelele area of Ilorin East Local Council of Kwara State yesterday, following the killing of two persons by suspected cultists.

The Guardian learnt that the attackers stormed the area, chanting “Aye! Aye!” before shooting sporadically, forcing people to scamper to safety.

An eyewitness said they moved straight to where a certain mechanic was and shot him at close range. They approached and fired at him. After he went down, they struck him with a big stone.”

After snuffing out the victim’s life, they departed swiftly, leaving the horrific scene behind.

A police source disclosed that on receiving intelligence, “law enforcers promptly responded to the scene to quell the unfolding attack”. He, however, added that the assailants fled before the arrival of police officers.

“On getting to the place, the suspects had vacated the crime scene, while the remains of the victim had been evacuated,” he said.

Also, a cloth weaver in the Baruba area was killed by the suspected cultists.

Confirming the incidents, spokesperson for Kwara State Police Command, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said investigation has led to the arrest of two suspects, who are undergoing questioning.

The spokesperson urged residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to the police.
