Maja spoke of his excitement upon his arrival.
“I’m really excited and proud to sign for Fulham on loan for the remainder of the season. This is a big opportunity and I look forward to meeting up with the team and working hard to achieve positive results,” he said.
Maja replaced Mitrovic and Fulham head coach Scott Parker has now provided an update on the Serbian’s health.
“Mitro is okay, he’s got one symptom of the virus. It’s disappointing for him as he was coming out the other side of a tough season. It’s a big-time and we’ll need him,” said Parker.
Maja scored twice away from home against Everton to give The Cottagers an unlikely victory at the ground of the European qualification chasing Toffees.
Parker spoke of how impressed he was with the striker’s integration and immediate impact on the side.
“I’ve been impressed with Josh Maja in a short space of time. He’s fitted in very well. He’s come into a young, energetic group of players. He wants to learn and get better, which is vitally important,” Parker said.
The club has the option to make the loan permanent in the summer. The fee is reported to be a reasonable £9 million which would be well within the club’s remit should they achieve survival from dreaded relegation.
In the meantime, with Mitrovic out, Maja has the opportunity to establish himself as the club’s first-choice forward.
