According to him, his position stemmed from the fact that the Electoral Bill was fundamental to the sustenance of Nigeria’s democracy as against the clamour for the review of the nation’s constitution.
The governor expressed his views during a meeting with South-South zonal executive committee members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at Government House, Uyo, yesterday.
He stated that taking the nation on the path of the constitutional review was a deliberate distraction when the issue of the Electoral Bill, which should reassure Nigerians of their stake in democracy was on the ground.
He called on Nigerians to defy partisanship in an issue of national interest such as the passage of the bill, saying it might not be a single solution to Nigeria’s problems but would be a major step forward.
