PDP accuses Kwara senators, reps of diverting FG’s rice

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has charged the federal legislators from the state to explain the whereabouts of the two trailer-loads of rice reportedly from the Federal Government for distribution to Kwarans at Yuletide.

PDP condemned, in strong terms, what it tagged “unfortunate alleged diversion and sale of trailer loads of Federal Government’s rice intervention.”  Further, accusing the nine members of the 10th National Assembly from the state of complicity, a statement by the Publicity Secretary of Kwara PDP, Olusegun Adewara, referred to a viral video featuring one DekeriAnamero, representing Etsako Federal constituency of Edo State, who claimed that Tinubu provided each National Assembly member with at least two trailers of rice for distribution in their various constituencies, wondering why such was not the case in Kwara.

The PDP, yesterday, queried the nine legislators from Kwara to speak up on “the whereabouts of the people’s rice in their domains.”It noted that it would be a shock of the century if the insinuation that all of them secretly sold the rice to commercial dealers in Abuja, thinking that nobody would be aware at home.

The concerned legislators who are all APC members include: Senators Salihu Mustapha (Kwara Central), OyelolaAshiru (Kwara South) and Suleiman Umar (Kwara North). Others are Raheem Olawuyi, Ismail Tijani, Ahmed Aluko, Tolani Shagaya, Adam Saba and Mohammed Bio of the green chamber.

“The PDP, having patiently awaited responses from these implicated APC legislators, noted with concern their continued silence, which is no longer golden. Their unfortunate silence raises suspicions of compromise, suggesting that the allocated rice intended for the people of Kwara may have been diverted and sold to commercial rice dealers in Abuja for personal gain.

“Based on the video made by Dekeri, each legislator is said to have received a minimum of 2,400 bags of 50kg rice. Given the current market price of N54,000 per bag, each Kwara legislator may have secretly pocketed N130 million while the nine of them have pocketed about N1.2 billion. Should this allegation turn out to be true, it will be an unfortunate betrayal of public trust.”

Kwara PDP called for immediate explanations from the l APC legislators and demanded transparency in accounting for the Federal Government’s rice intervention. It added: “The party remains committed to upholding the principles of accountability, integrity and service to the people.”
