Secondus, Sekibo, Okpara, Omehia, others warn Tinubu
Chieftains of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, including the 2023 Presidential Campaign Council members, have berated the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for disrupting peace in the state.
The stakeholders, led by the former Director General of the Presidential Campaign Committee, Dr Abiye Sekibo, and a former Chairman of the Campaign Committee, Senator Lee Maeba, yesterday, chided Wike for allegedly believing that over seven million residents of the state were his slaves because he governed them for eight years.
The party stalwarts also expressed sadness that the minister had consistently abused the privilege God bestowed upon him through the votes of the people, alleging that Wike had committed serious crimes against the people of the state.
Other party chieftains at the meeting, held in Port Harcourt, yesterday, included former PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus; former Deputy Governor, Tele Ikuru; former Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Austin Okpara; Celestine Omehia, Gloria Emeh, Emmah Okah, women leaders, youths and many others.
Sekibo, shortly after the meeting, told newsmen: “Today, we are sad because in the last few months, the peace of our state has been disturbed by the foolish actions of one selfish man, who believes that more than seven million Rivers people are his slaves for electing him as their governor for eight years. Our people are not a conquered lot and would never subscribe to the mentality of conquest. We also refuse to be divided along tribal or ethnic lines.
“Lately, he resorted to insulting our revered leader, and former Governor, Dr Peter Odili, and his wife, Justice Mary Peter-Odili, because they refused to support him in his failed attempt to impeach the duly elected Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.
“The FCT minister has threatened publicly to destabilise the peace in Rivers State. The President has a duty to caution him. We, the Rivers people will not stand by while an individual decides that we will not sleep with our two eyes closed. The Holy Book says: ‘He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind’. If Wike troubles Rivers people, he shall surely inherit the wind.”
They warned the President against Wike, saying: “We wish to let the President know that this appointee ran a kleptocratic government when he reigned supreme as Governor of Rivers State, and may do same in the Federal Capital Territory if the President looks the other way. We strongly advise Mr President to keep a close watch on the FCT Administration.”
