The PENGASSAN, in a statement yesterday on the state of the nation, said power targets set by the current administration despite the availability of human and natural resources had been disappointing.
The statement, signed by its President, Festus Osifo, expressed concern why the nation could not explore other alternatives to improve power supply and use such to grow the economy since economic growth is largely dependent on the availability of steady power supply.
The oil workers urged the government to complete the power and energy sector deregulation process by opening up the transmission segment of power value chains to competent private participation and investments.
In pursuing this, the union advocated managerial experience, technical expertise and financial capabilities to be considered for willing and prospective investors.
Among other issues on national concern, ahead of the 2023 general elections, the expressed worry over refusal by the Federal Government to heed to demands and calls to initiate steps towards bequeathing to the nation an enduring electoral process through the reform of the electoral laws.
It, therefore, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to sign the bill into law without further delay.
It equally urged Nigerians to make a conscious effort to get their voters’ cards to vote for incredible leaders.
The oil workers recommended that a security summit should be urgently convened by the Federal Government to review the security situation in the country.
