Peseiro weighs options as Eagles’ contract ends today

Super Eagles Coach, Jose Peseiro, may not renew his contract with Nigeria when his current deal ends today.

The Portuguese, who led Nigeria to the silver medal at the just-concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, met the semifinal target set for him by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), but he seems to be looking beyond the Super Eagles.

Among other teams, the 63-year-old has since been linked with the vacant Algeria and Tunisia coaching job.

But in an interview with GoalFrance, Peseiro said he was taking a break from football and would only start planning his future when his current contract expires today.

He said: “I told everyone to come back at the end of the month. What is certain is that I want to continue coaching and I need to choose wisely.

“At this moment, I repeat, all options remain possible. I received a lot of options, and a lot of contacts from national teams or clubs.I would say 5, 6 or 7.

“I let them all know that I need to rest and that when my contract expires, I will talk about it and start thinking about other projects. And decide my future. For now, I need to take a break and be calm.

“But I listen to the proposals and projects that are offered to me. And I evaluate whether I like it or not.”

On continuing with the Super Eagles, Peseiro said all the possibilities are on the table, adding, that it is a decision he will make carefully to avoid making a mistake.

There are indications that the NFF wants to continue with the Portuguese, but issue that may scuttle the agreement is Peseiro’s desire to balance the Super Eagles job with a club management role, just like Super Falcons’ manager, Randy Waldrum.
