Phillip Shaibu wins Edo PDP parallel governorship primary election

The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has been declared as the winner of a parallel governorship primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Shaibu was declared as the winner of the PDP parallel governorship primary election which took place at the Ogbe Stadium in Benin City, Edo State on Thursday.

The Edo State Deputy Governor emerged as the winner of the primaries with three hundred and one votes.

Although, by the PDP’s constitution, only the National Working Committee (NWC) of a party is empowered to conduct and supervise its primaries.


Meanwhile, a total of ten aspirants will contest the PDP governorship primary election in the faction of Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki.

The aspirants are Hon. Omosede Igbinedion; former chairman Edo State APC, Anselem Ojezua; former chairperson of Esan West Local Government Area, Felix Akhabue and former managing director of Sterling Bank, Dr Asue Ighodalo.

Others are Shaibu; Arthur Esene, former House of Representatives member, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama; Amb. Martin Uhumoibi, Osaro Onaiwu and Umoru Hadizat.


Zamfara State Governor Lawal Dauda is the chairman of the electoral committee while Governor Sheriff Oborevwhori of Delta state is the co-chairman.

The likes of Senator James Manager (secretary), Senator Bayero Nafada, Mrs Nella Rabana, SAN, Hadiza Mustapha and Chief Felix Hyatt make up the members of the committee.
