Plateau State Acting Chief Judge, Justice David Mann, has chastised lower judges in the state for allegedly sentencing some culprits beyond their offences.
While on inspection tour and review of sentences, yesterday, in Jos, Mann expressed his desire to raise the competence of judges in the state, especially at the lower courts.
At some of the correctional facilities visited, he released some inmates with minor cases, for example, wandering and idleness.
Mann pointed out that his mandate was to raise the standard of the lower courts in the state.
The lower courts, according to him, are advised to do the right things always, explaining that where they are in doubt, they should consult law books.
The CJ further explained that the exercise was to ensure that justice did not suffer but is done appropriately.
Responding, Plateau State Controller of Correctional Centres in Jos, Samuel Aguda, thanked the CJ for his tour, expressing optimism that the exercise would decongest the prison.
